The electric vehicle market in India has just witnessed a major new addition in the form of the MG Windsor EV, which went on sale on September 11, 2024. Priced at an introductory ₹9.99 lakh, the Windsor EV is supposed to be slotted into the rapidly expanding EV category, offering features to lure budget-conscious buyers without skimping on quality. While this compact utility vehicle, or CUV, stands as MG Motor’s third all-electric offering in India, setting off the trails blazed by the ZS EV and Comet EV, it carries within itself several features that might just make it a game changer.
Key Features of the MG Windsor EV
The MG Windsor EV sports a 38kWh LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery, claiming a range of 331 km on a single full charge. The car derive its power from a front-axle motor which makes 136 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque. This makes Windsor a fine car to drive both in city roads as well as highways. It also comes with four driving modes: Eco+, Eco, Normal, and Sport, which would be perfect according to different driving styles.
MG has also equipped the Windsor EV with fast-charging capability. The latter will charge from 0 to 80 percent in 55 minutes on a 45kW fast charger. Home chargers could be either 3.3kW or 7.7kW AC, charging the battery to full in around 14 and 6.5 hours, respectively.
MG’s Innovative Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) Model
One of the key highlights in the Windsor EV is the introduction of MG’s Battery-as-a-Service model. This initiative further makes the car more affordable by allowing them to lease the battery alone separately, at ₹3.5/kilometer of running that the customers will pay. It reduces the upfront cost of the vehicle and thus will allow budget-conscious buyers to purchase this electric SUV. Also, there is a lifetime warranty under the BaaS model for the first-time owner and one year of free public charging.
Tech and Interior Comfort
Inside the MG Windsor EV will be one of the class’s largest 15.6-inch informant screens; this display is the centerpiece of the car’s modern, tech-focused interior. Also in the interior: reclining rear seats and an extensive glass roof, creating an immersive driving atmosphere.
Targeting the Indian EV Market
MG Motor has been strategic with the pricing and features of Windsor EV, while trying to capture the highly growing demands of electric vehicles in India. Starting at ₹9.99 lakh, the Windsor EV has joined an elite list of some of the most affordable electric CUVs on sale today. Deliveries will start from October 12, 2024, while bookings will open from October 3.
The Road Ahead: MG Windsor EV’s Potential Impact
With the affordable price, range, and innovative BaaS model, the MG Windsor EV is well-placed to become the first choice among emerging first-time electric vehicle buyers in India. With the developing ecosystem for EV charging and increasing support from the government for green initiatives, the Windsor EV could play a key role in accelerating India’s shift towards electric mobility.
Priced reasonably, the MG Windsor EV is sure to shake up the Indian EV market with its customer-friendly features. Whether one is an evergreen EV enthusiast or whosoever is opting for their virgin electric car, the product is something that no one can afford to miss due to practicality and innovation factor.
