Saripodhaa Sanivaaram: A Gripping Action Drama with Stellar Performances but Flawed Pacing

With all expectations, Saripodhaa Sanivaaram, starring Natural Star Nani and helmed by Vivek Athreya, has finally hit the theatres. The storyline of this movie is quite exciting, where the plot revolves around a man who takes to anger very unusually with a strange routine of letting it all out on Saturdays. Though exceptional at some point, the movie falters with the pace in terms of performance, especially Nani and SJ Suryah.

Storyline: A Tale of Controlled Fury and Vengeance

The story begins with Surya, essayed by Nani, who promises his mother of keeping his anger on a leash for six days of the week and only showing off his anger on Saturdays. This weird bad habit soon turns dark when a tragic incident in the Sokulapalem village sets Surya on a vendetta against ruthless cop CI Daya, played by SJ Suryah. It is then that the movie starts getting tossed around in the stream of Surya’s quest for justice, first with the likes of policewoman Charulatha, played by Priyanka Arul Mohan, and mysterious politician Koormanandam, played by Murali Sharma.

As the story goes further, with Surya’s masked anger driving it ahead, it lays open the reasons behind his ire, the links amongst the characters, and the ethics involved in revenge.

Performances: Nani and SJ Suryah Steal the Show

Nani delivers a striking performance as Surya, captured in such great detail. The fact that he can express the tension of containing his anger and letting it all out on Saturdays makes his character relatable yet compelling. SJ Suryah as the bad guy Daya turns in an exciting performance; he brings both intensity and dark humor to the role. These are the high points of the film: the confrontations between Surya and Daya. Both actors go toe-to-toe, full steam, in these scenes.

Priyanka Arul Mohan is decent enough as Charulatha but is much restricted. She shares a great chemistry with Nani, and this contributes a lot to the multi-layered storytelling, though the romantic track is not fully fleshed out. The supporting contributions from Murali Sharma and Sai Kumar lend great depth, while Aditi Balan and Harshavardhan are fair to watch in smaller roles.

Music and Technical Aspects: A Mixed Bag

The score of the film, done by Jakes Bejoy, is one of the strong elements of the film. Music raises key scenes to make the story far more emotive and dramatic. Be it the tension-packed action or the quiet introspective moments; Bejoy’s music plays an important role in setting the tone.

G. Murali’s camerawork is good, presenting the film as a visual treat that goes well with the narrative. Karthik could have done the editing tight-especially in the first half that drags a bit.

The Narrative: Promising But Flawed

While the plot sounds interesting for Saripodhaa Sanivaaram, the execution goes haywire in bits. Director Vivek Athreya, fresh from the success of Ante Sundaraniki, comes with a new idea but falters in pacing and screenplay. The first half is heavily loaded with character introductions that are necessary, and that drags the movie. In the second half, it comes into a good rhythm, but the climax falters where the story had set base for real high impact.

Besides, some characters, particularly those essayed by Aditi Balan and Abhirami, are wasted. More screen space for the same character would make writing more relatable and engaging. Koormanandam, played by Murali Sharma, should also be penned in a more tantalizing way.

Verdict: An Entertaining Yet Inconsistent Ride

Saripodhaa Sanivaaram is an action drama that shines in its performances, particularly those of Nani and SJ Suryah, and is bolstered by a strong musical score. However, the film’s pacing issues and uneven narrative prevent it from reaching its full potential. Fans of Nani and those who enjoy character-driven action films will find much to appreciate, but a tighter screenplay and more focused direction could have made this a truly standout film.
